Activists wearing face masks and haz-mat suits dumped a pile of sewage sludge on the steps of San Francisco’s city hall today to protest the city’s practice of marketing the material to home gardeners as “organic compost.”

Let's tackle the ball of the foot and toe problem in the steel toed footwear first:

I have never worn heels more than 1" high, so I also have a full "splay" of toes. Now, after 50, the balls of the foot lose padding and muscle tone. To compensate, I wear a wider shoe than what my shoe size actually is (I'm a B, but order a C width). Then I buy well-made socks with padding at the ball and around the toes. I happen to like Thorlos because their padding is of good quality. Sure, they are $9-11 bucks per sock, but they wash & wear like iron, so I think I'm getting my money's worth and solving my problem big time! I buy the socks, then look for shoes to fit the my foot in the sock.

Usually if you are stiff behind the knees after standing long periods of time, it is because the knees have a tendency to buckle slightly back when subjected to more weight than they are comfortable carrying. We all have a few extra pounds. Losing some would be ideal (unless you are already skinny as a rail).
However, easier said than done (losing weight)!!….so my idea is flexible knee supports (cotton/spandex or similar) that you can wear under your pants that will give more support to the knees.
